My Review of "Avenue Q"

3 out of 5 STARS

Avenue Q = reminded me of an old Beatles's song on Abbey Road
"Out of college, money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling
Nowhere to go"

I did not know the actors, plot, or story line. I paid almost $200 on-line, and it is 2 hours and 15 mins long with a 15 minute intermission.
The only knowledge of the MUSIC is from a mash-up on YouTube, that is effin' HILARIOUS! (Please -
http://tinyurl.com/m8nfzj ) SO, for about $100/hour and this knowledge - will this entertain me?
AND - for a Broadway Show my answer is, YES. I think that is what being a critic is all about. Would you want to go if Apollo went? So, before September 13, GO - if you want to laugh, a lot.

Here is what I learned from Avenue Q...
You start your life looking for a place to RENT on Avenue A, and somehow you can almost afford Avenue P, but you want to save a bit of money for tomorrow, so YOU end up on Avenue Q until you finally, get it, and start moving back on up to Avenue P, Avenue O, and so forth! And a lot of the jokes in the show do that - - You are ALWAYS learning each joke, one STEP at a time.
The funniest part of Avenue Q, was that several years ago I actually saw "RENT" on Broadway, and it almost feels like the same theater - eerie?!?!? BUT - the topics in Avenue Q - were also told in RENT:
relationships
gays
racism
money
drugs
and
rock-n-roll.
